Nashville Pond Society members are from all over Middle Tennessee. Most of them already have ponds, some with Koi, goldfish or other fish. Other members are thinking of and looking at ideas for installing a pond, a waterfall or other water features. Members’ ponds include everything from extensive professional installations, to natural mini-lakes, home-built ponds, or even small fountains.
We meet monthly (except December), usually on a third Sunday afternoon, at Members’ homes, Commercial Members business location, or at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens during winter months(Jan. Feb. Mar. & Nov). Our meetings feature speakers and/or demonstrations, friendly sharing of information and experiences, and other activities to help members create or maintain beautiful ponds with the greatest enjoyment and the fewest possible problems.
Annual NPS events have included spring and fall picnics, plant swaps, opportunities for purchasing Koi, and a "Parade of Ponds" each fall. Other events also could include building and staffing displays at the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show, and the Williamson County Garden Expo, along with others. Occasionally we do “fish rescues” when someone’s pond must be closed. All event times and places, along with informative articles are announced in the Society’s monthly newsletter The POND, which is distributed to members on-line or, by mail.
Our website provides members with lists of our personal and commercial members and our officers, and a catalog of the Society’s extensive lending library of books, magazines and audio-visual resources. Back issues of the newsletter and photos of various Society events are found there too.
Our Commercial Members offer a 10% discount to NPS members, and at our meetings they often provide speakers, refreshments or lunch, or door prizes.
The Society’s membership is diverse geographically, financially, and in many other ways, and everyone is welcome. We are affiliated with Associated Koi Clubs of America (AKCA) and we contribute to its campaign to wipe out the Koi HIV virus. We also maintain cordial relationships with spin-off groups which have developed to serve specialized interests or geographical areas, including Montgomery County Pond Society, Koi Club of Middle Tennessee and Rutherford County Pond Society.
Dues are currently $25 per year for a household, which pays for all the above except tickets to the Parade of Ponds.
You’ll find us a fun-loving, friendly bunch of people who are eager to be helpful. Visitors are welcome at most of our events.
